Cognitive surplus

Clay Shirky made a great presentation on gin, TV, and the cognitive surplus that answers the “where do people find the time” question non-net people ask us about (say) Wikipedia – America spends on the order of 100 million person-hours a weekend just watching the ads alone. Put even a fraction of that towards participatory projects, and you get a lot of stuff.
